A tour of the Cavanaugh Flight Museum is like stepping back in time and watching aviation history unfold before you. The aircraft on display at the museum will take you from the swirling dogfights of World War I to the high tech realm of modern air-to-air combat. You will see how military aircraft have radically altered over the last 80 years and learn how these changes have affected the ultimate outcome of some of the 20th century's most pivotal conflicts. What sets the Cavanaugh Flight Museum apart from most other aviation museums (besides the quality of the its collection), is the fact that nearly all of the aircraft on display are airworthy and continue to fly on a regular basis. This means that on any given day, visitors may see a number of different aircraft active on the museum's ramp. The museum's maintenance facility allows visitors to look beneath the skin of such famous aircraft as the Sopwith Camel, the P-51 Mustang, or the German Me-109 and to talk with the mechanics who keep these warbirds flying. This is a rare opportunity not found at other aviation museums. Finally, the museum has other facilities for visitors to enjoy: an outdoor picnic area, an air conditioned canteen, a large aviation art gallery and a large gift shop. A visit to the Cavanaugh Flight Museum adds up to a fun and educational experience second to none in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Formal tours involving the museum's guides can be arranged by
calling (972) 380-8800 during the museum's office hours, Monday through Friday from 9:00am
to 5:00pm. Tour guides are members of the museum's large volunteer group and are well
versed in the histories of each of the aircraft housed at the museum. They can accommodate
a group from 10 to 100 with ease and professionalism.
