About the Museum

The Cavanaugh Flight Museum is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational  organization devoted to promoting aviation studies and to perpetuating America’s aviation heritage; the museum fulfills its mission by restoring, operating, maintaining and displaying historically significant, vintage aircraft, and by collecting materials related to the history of aviation. 
The museum opened its doors in October 1993 and has since welcomed over 400,000 visitors.  The Cavanaugh Flight Museum boasts one of the largest aviation collections in the country, with more than 40 vintage aircraft, all meticulously restored and maintained; a majority of which are in flyable condition.  We also house an extensive collection of signed aviation artwork and other aviation-related artifacts. 
As some of you may know, the Museum in conjunction with the Town of Addison is exploring the development of a new state of the art facility for the Cavanaugh Flight Museum. Working together with the Town of Addison we plan to create a world-class facility, providing education and entertainment to individuals and families who visit the premier tourist site in Addison, Texas.  The new facility plan includes classrooms, meeting space, a state-of-the-art theater, research library, observation replica tower, maintenance shop, and art gallery.   The possibilities are endless.
Our gala ushers in a new era for the Cavanaugh Flight Museum; one in which the Cavanaugh Flight Museum comes into its own and can expand not only physical location and exhibit size, but also educational and community opportunities.  The annual gala will serve as our largest fundraising event to help fund the operation and expansion of the museum.
